UK Plastic Surgeons Call for Cosmetic Surgery Ad Ban

While advertisements for plastic surgery might seem like a good deal, chances are, they're far from it.

This is what plastic surgeons in the UK hope to get across to the government and patients alike.

According to BBC, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) are working to tighten plastic surgery regulations in the United Kingdom, and their first order of business is to ban cosmetic surgery advertising.

Experts agree that advertising cosmetic surgery doesn't make sense. Hospitals don't advertise deals on  heart surgery, orthopedics, or cancer care, so what makes cosmetic procedures any different?

Many of these procedures come with similar risks, yet some patients and doctors seem to take plastic surgery a lot lighter than they should.

Fazel Fatah, president of BAAPS told BBC, “Over the last decade, BAAPS has worked tirelessly to educate the public on the many aggressive marketing gimmicks that not only trivialize society, but endanger the patient.”

He added, “We have warned against the unrealistic expectations set by reality ‘makeover’ shows and against crass competition prizes promising ‘mummy makeovers’ and body overhauls.”
