Say Goodbye to Your Daytime Reading Glasses

And say hello to night-time contact lenses. There are a variety of ways to correct vision besides laser eye surgery. The new type of contact lenses, worn at night, could reduce dependence on reading glasses in middle age patients and correct nearsightedness during the day.

While used for people who are short-sighted, they are now suitable for age-related sight loss.
The contact lenses functions by a special technique, known as hyperopic orthokeratology, which alters the shape of the eye to correct vision.

The lenses gently press on the eye to restore it to the shape of someone with normal vision.
Since contact lenses are worn while asleep, the patient no longer needs their vision improved during the day with reading glasses.
And because they aren’t worn during the day, the eyes still get adequate oxygen. 'This possibility will certainly appeal to many people, especially since the changes in the corneal curvature of the treated eye are fully reversible.' Dr Adams concluded.
