Marie Kolstad, 83, underwent plastic surgery. |
Last month, Ms. Kolstad underwent plastic surgery to improve her appearance, and she is just one of a growing group of older cosmetic surgery patients.
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) reported there were a total of 84,685 plastic surgery procedures performed on patients over the age of 65 in 2010 alone, and the number keeps on rising.
The most popular procedures amongst this age group were: 26,635 face lifts, 24,783 eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty), 6,469 liposuctions, 5,874 breast reduction surgeries, 3,875 forehead lifts, 3,339 breast lifts and 2,414 breast augmentations.
But at the age of 83, aren't there some risks involved? From previous studies, there appears to be no increased risk, but experts agree that more research on this topic needs to be done.
